Well the weather looks like it will sorta cooperate tomorrow. This will be our first night outside together. The objective is to sort the Groups out, establish some good riding etiquette and hand out the jerseys.
It looks like it will be a cooler evening so be prepared. Bring a jacket as we will not be doing a ton of riding, and anything we do will be at slow speed. It will cool off as the sun goes down and you will not be working that hard.
Here's what will be happening and the time line, as best we can estimate
Meet at Conexus Arts Centre from 6-6:10 pm. Mon April 30 2018.
6:20 pm Ride briefing and Introduction
6:30 Ride Leaders take their Groups and disperse amongst the various parking lots.
6:30-7pm. Hand signals, communication and safe riding practice.
7pm. Riding skills
Bring a water bottle, squeezable.
I've attached an Excel file with your name and the Group you've been assigned to, based on your survey results., Bear in mind that this is a rough sort. Things will change. Your Ride Leaders will have a clipboard with the Group number on it. Just look for it, go over and say Hi! They're expecting you!
I monitor the weather throughout the day. If it looks at all questionable I will post a Go/ No Go at 4pm via email and FB.
When you arrive at Conexus please all park in the same row so that we can maximize the space available for riding. Don't forget, you have a bike, you can always ride over! :)
Well our season is starting to look a little closer to reality! The weather is coming around and I actually saw gophers out the other day.
Mon the 23rd, 6-8pm is our Tech night at Dutch cycle. It's a great opportunity to learn some basic maintenance, bike fit, bike parts and how to fix a flat tire!
This evening is aimed at the beginner riders. Freddy will do a brief presentation then we will split everyone up into small groups of 2 or 3 with a Ride Leader and learn how to fix a flat! It's super easy if you know what you are doing...:)
So, dress casual because we generally sit on the floor while we work. We'll play with bike pumps and CO2 guns, we'll learn and laugh and at least one tube will go Bang! sometime during the evening.
IMPORTANT...Bring your front wheel only. You do not need your bike
Everyone should be on the mailing list, I'll also post this to FB.
To help estimate how many are coming please respond to this email with a Yes. If you're not coming you do not need to reply at all. See some of you Monday.
Mark, Theresa and the Ride Leaders
When you look outside it's hard to believe that cycling season is just around the corner. The good news is that our first event does not involve any outdoor activity other than driving to Dutch Cycle on April 9th!
We call it the Registration celebration because it's an opportunity to reacquaint ourselves with the friends we rode with last year and meet the new riders of Spoke n' Hot. If you're a veteran, I invite you to think back to how you felt when you first signed up. Were you nervous? No idea what would happen, would you fit in? It's easy to forget that feeling, it's just riding after all...!
Spoke has, and always will be, a welcoming place for women cyclists of all abilities. It's exciting for us to look at how things have grown over the last six years and this year we are very proud of the fact that we now have enough women instructors to make all the men redundant!..but we hope you'll let us hang around.
So come out on Monday, 6:30 pm. Have a glass of wine, visit with friends and we can all have a good moan about the weather. We won't be on the road until the end of the month and the weather can really improve by then!
