Good morning all,
As of this morning I think we have 73 cyclists registered to come out to this ride on Sunday!
(Can't help but think of the symmetry of "100 doing 100" but I'll leave that to fate and the weather. :) Forecast looks pretty good for Sunday with a high of 28C.
I've been posting updates on Facebook and the info seems to be getting around but just in case..
The ride will leave from the Rexentre in Ft QuAppelle at 0900 on Sunday July 26th.
The Rexentre will be open from 0800 until 4pm.
There is no charge for this ride. If you Register to do the ride with Rapha then you will receive a woven badge from them. Register here
We'll have maps available in the Rexentre but do yourself a favor and download the one above, created by Paul" no problem"Cutting.
I'm organizing a couple of volunteers to provide support but you really need to be capable of looking after yourself. Have tubes, a pump and know how to use them. Print off the map, stay hydrated and pace yourself. Make sure that your bike is in good shape, tires pumped and ready to go!
The ride is 100 km, leaving from Ft QuAppelle, around Echo and then down to Katepwa Beach and back. We will put signage out to keep you on the right track. Please be aware that there are two good climbs out of the valley and it's a 100 km. This is not an easy ride so be smart about your ability and pacing.
You need to be aware that the roads are not closed to traffic. You need to conduct yourself appropriately. Paul will probably set you off in waves so that we do not get bunching along the way, remember this is not a race, it's a fun ride in a beautiful part of our Province. The roads are narrow, without a shoulder, and curvy. Single file is the smart way to ride.
The route is pretty good in that there are washrooms at Echo and Katepwa with a nice little beach store at Katepwa. On the way back from Katepwa you'll be climbing the hill from Lebret up to Balcarres and coming back into Ft Q on Hwy 10. Then you do the second big climb out of Ft Q as if you're going back to Regina. When you reach Hwy 210, the scenic Echo Valley road, you just turn right and follow the highway down to Echo and back into Ft Q! Easy!
When you get back to the Rexentre, you're done. If you're back before 4pm the washrooms will still be open.
And that's it! Hopefully you had a good ride, challenged yourself and finished with a smile on your face.
Mark and Theresa.
I tend to be the noisy one, Theresa and the Ride Leaders are the real story.
