A couple of months ago it was suggested by one of our Spokies that we should take part in the Rapha 100.This is not a race, it is a ride.
"On Sunday 26th July 2015, join thousands of women around the world to ride 100km. A global event, ride on your own or join an organised ride. Rides will be taking place everywhere, including several led by Rapha. Over 8,000 women took part in 2014 — this year we’re aiming to double that number"
The biggest challenge I faced was the route? As we all know, we are a little challenged here in the Queen City to find any kind of fun riding experience. To be honest, it was quite stressful until yesterday.I was using Mapmyride and Google maps looking for inspiration and I think I found it!
I took a ride on my motorbike out to Ft Qu'appelle, rode around Echo then went down Hwy 56 past Lebret down to Katepwa. I've put together a fabulous ride that will challenge you with a couple of good climbs but also some thrilling descents!
Paul will be back from vacation on Tuesday so he will help me put a map together for you.
Now, planning this? I'm going to see if the Rec Centre in Ft Q is available for us as a Start/Finish. There's lots of options for bathroom breaks all along the course so that's no problem. One thing I would like is 5 or 6 husbands/boyfriends to help us. My idea is that we would give each of them 20km to look after because the pace that you ride will all be different.
Speaking of husbands/boyfriends...this is a ride celebrating women but I can't think of a reason why we should not include our partners? Let me know how you feel? Please.
More details will follow, I just wanted to let you know the general idea. There's no charge for the ride, we just want to go for a fun ride on a Sunday with friends! Starts at 0900.
I tend to be the noisy one, Theresa and the Ride Leaders are the real story.
