Hi all, well it looks like we will have a good night for a ride tomorrow. A nice big high pressure system should bring light winds and warm temps! Sunset is 8:50pm.
We'll start from the Turvey at 6:30 as usual. Terry L will not be leading G8, he's getting ready to head out to Ironman Boulder and will be leaving on Tues!
So, bring your water and a smile. See you at the Turvey!
Well our second Spoke n'Hot triathlon is in the books! Thank you and congratulations to all the athletes and volunteers who took advantage of a perfect day at Echo. We know that for many of you, this race was a personal best and we were thrilled to be part of it.Theresa and I did our, by now, traditional fall asleep on the couch and order pizza when we got home so it's all good!
So, as we discussed last week, tonight we will ride from the Lowes parking lot. We've used this route a few times now and it's quite popular. Meet at the west end of the parking lot and on the road by 6:30! See you there..:)
Hi all, well the weekend was fabulous! On Saturday we saw my oldest daughter, Christina, marry Jordan and we spent some time with my beautiful granddaughter Scarlett. The ceremony was held in Elfros and the reception in Wadena. It was interesting to go outside at 7:30 pm on Fri night, stand in the middle of Main St and see nothing moving! Even the cats were in for the night. :). We returned to Regina this afternoon and promptly fell asleep on the couch. Pizza for supper and feeling perky...
So, I hear you saying, what does this have to do with biking on Monday night? And the answer is quite concise really. Nothing, not a sausage, bugger all.
So, Monday night, weather looks like it will be great so we'll meet at the Turvey and be on the road by 6:30. We'll stay on Hwy 6 for the evening. Promises to be a fun night and we look forward to seeing you all.
Mark and Theresa.
( In Canada you call them dainties, we snagged some this morning at the Present opening so now I'm nibbling a dainty as I write this)
Well it's been quite the time for Theresa and I lately. We became Grandparents last week and tomorrow we will be at my oldest daughters wedding in Elfros, SK. ( It's near Wadena ). Obviously then, we will not be biking in the morning BUT YOU STILL CAN!!! Yes, it's true...you do not need us to go for a ride! So here's what I suggest..
First off, stay clear of Hwy 11 and the whole Craven area. Not a good idea this weekend.
So, how about you meet at Lowes at 0800 and decide from there? You can go straight south on Hwy 6 or west on Hwy 1. Your choice, but don't miss out on a great riding opportunity. So, ..
0800. Meet at Lowes, NorthWest corner of the parking lot. Have a great time and we'll see you Monday.
Mark and Theresa ( who looks amazingly hot in her new frock!!, but don't tell her I said that.)
I know that many of you read my posts and think " oh that Mark, here he goes again waxing poetic" but, truth be known, it takes me forever to write this stuff. I will say though, that since forming Spoke n'Hot way back in 2012 my typing speed has increased significantly! point being, the post below is a repeat but I liked it and it works for tonight!)
with the sound of wheezing
with sweat they have wrung through a thousand gears
the hills fill Lumsden with the sound of whining.........
OK, hopefully you get the idea about what we are doing tonight. Up to now we've been having some good rides on flat terrain, concentrating on riding together, pace line etiquette, drafting, eating ice cream, etc..
However, hill climbing and descending are a very important part of riding and deserve their own special day,or two?
So the plan is for us all to meet out at Lumsden High School, 300 Broad st in Lumsden!
Let's plan on being there for 6:30, riding at 6:45, it takes about 20 mins from the north end of Regina to get to Lumsden. There's generally plenty of parking in the area by the school but please be considerate. You can also park at the ball diamonds and ride over to the school if you prefer.
We'll break out into our normal groups and use the three hills we have, the Highway, the Garbage dump hill, and the Old highway. For the beginner, intermediate riders we will spend time learning how to ascend and descend safely. I promise you that no-one will be doing anything that they are not able to handle.
The more advanced riders will be having more of a workout on the hills.
Of course, this is all weather dependent. I'll monitor it,of course, and keep you advised. But because we will be "in town" we can afford to be a little bit more flexible. It looks pretty good right now so hopefully we'll see you tonight!!
but it's not a bad thought is it?
Anyway, I'm thinking about tomorrow morning and going for a ride. The south end works super well for me as I live in Harbour Landing. So I'll be leaving from Lowes parking lot at 0800. My plan is to ride west and repeat the ride that we did with Spoke n'Hot on Canada day and Spokesmen on Wed night but instead of coming back in on Hwy 1 I'm going to head west again to Pense and then turn round. I think it's about 70km but don't quote me.
So, if you're looking for a ride then that's where I'll be. If you decide to come out don't forget your water and snacks etc!! Don't forget that we will not be running support so make sure you've got all your gear.
I tend to be the noisy one, Theresa and the Ride Leaders are the real story.
