Theresa will be sending out the Time Trial results on Monday. It took us a little longer than usual due to a whole bunch of family/work commitments that meant we were not really home until this afternoon! The good news though is that we did a Time Trial with Spokesmen on Wednesday using an app called Webscorer on an Ipad and it worked very well. We were able to time and publish the results the same night.
We wanted to try it with the guys first because we only had 16 riders. My thought was that if I screwed up the timing I only had to buy 32 beers and some nachos and all would be forgiven and forgotten. The ladies would have cost me 136 beers, healthy appetizers and then nachos PLUS I would never hear the end of it.......Oh c'mon you know it's true. :)
So Monday night looks pretty good for a ride as of typing this, 10pm Sunday, let's meet up at Evraz as usual at 6'ish. There's a couple of things I want to do before we ride.
1. There are too many riders in G5 and G6 so I want to put another Group in-between. Nicole will be leading this Group. For the sake of simplicity we will just bump all the Groups after G5 up one and add G11, or Group Spinal Tap....
Nigel Tufnel: The numbers all go to eleven. Look, right across the board, eleven, eleven, eleven and...
Marty DiBergi: Oh, I see. And most amps go up to ten?
Nigel Tufnel: Exactly.
Marty DiBergi: Does that mean it's louder? Is it any louder?
Nigel Tufnel: Well, it's one louder, isn't it? It's not ten. You see, most blokes, you know, will be playing at ten. You're on ten here, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up, you're on ten on your guitar. Where can you go from there? Where?
Marty DiBergi: I don't know.
Nigel Tufnel: Nowhere. Exactly. What we do is, if we need that extra push over the cliff, you know what we do?
Marty DiBergi: Put it up to eleven.
Nigel Tufnel: Eleven. Exactly. One louder.
Marty DiBergi: Why don't you make ten a little louder, make that the top number and make that a little louder?
Nigel Tufnel: [pauses] These go to eleven.
Shane M is in Calgary this week and asked me if I would look after G9 for him. So, hopefully I'll be riding with you if all goes to plan. One thing I would like us all to do is focus on safe passing procedure. I was quite thrilled when Terri reported how impressed other riders were at the Golden Triangle when they saw how well our riders conducted themselves and I would like to set up a couple of opportunities for each Group to safely pass and be passed.
That's it for now, I will also be sending this out via email. If you do not receive it. let me know. I may have your address wrong.
Theresa and I came home from the Time Trial with a huge smile. It was a perfect night for our riders to push themselves and the evening went off without a hitch.
Getting so many riders on their way every 15 seconds was a triumph of organization, so a big thank you to all involved at the Start line, Theresa, Alan, Wanda, Cindy and Terry. Erin was at Exit A with her cowbell making sure that all the riders made the correct turn and getting deaf in the process! At the finish line we had Erin and Shane with the challenging task of figuring out who everyone was as they came flying by!
The big thank you though goes to the riders who participated. I offered the option of a regular ride to those who did not want to do the TT, NOBODY WAS INTERESTED!! We had fast road bikes, triathlon bikes, hybrid bikes, mountain bikes with knobbies and the odd tricycle..Everyone participated, worked hard and finished with a smile.
We hope you liked the new course and welcome your comments. Theresa will get the results out in the next day or so.
Congratulations all, and thank you for making Spoke n'Hot so much fun.
Well tomorrow night is when we find out who is a little faster than they thought they were!
It's our first of two Individual Time Trials. It's a great opportunity to just ride as fast as you can for 10km. We'll record your time and have another one towards the end of the season to see just how much you've improved.
It's a pretty simple format and it seems to work quite well. For the newer riders, you basically line up behind each other, and every 15 seconds a rider starts. Theresa and I want to try a new course this year that should be a little smoother but we will still be meeting at Evraz as usual at 6pm.
So get a good nights sleep, eat your veggies tomorrow and make sure your tires are pumped up! See you tomorrow.
Well the weekend is pretty much over which means that tomorrow night we're riding!
This will be our first ride from the Turvey Centre at Evraz Steel. For our new riders just head north on Albert st, go under the Hwy 11 overpass and take your first left onto Armour road then your first right into the Turvey parking lot. Meet at 6'ish and on the road by 6:30 promptly.
The forecast is not fabulous, Env Cda is calling for a 40% chance of showers so, as usual, I will be keeping an eye on it during the day and I will update you at 4pm if required.
The plan for tomorrow..
This will be our first ride. For some of you, it will be your first time on the highway, so your Ride Leaders will be spending a little more time on the pre ride briefing. This ride will be all about getting used to each other and becoming comfortable with riding in a Group. What I want to see is smart riding, good group etiquette and lots of smiles. I'm not too concerned about the pace, so you will be going out for 45 minutes and back for 40 minutes! Sunset is at 8:31 so as long as you are all back in the parking lot by 8 I'll be happy.
A couple of you have inquired about changing Groups. Hopefully I have replied to you all. I expect that I will have to do some more shuffling around tomorrow but it will be a lot simpler than last week.
So that's it for now, in closing though, I do want to mention that I want to see all riders equipped with a flashing rear light. Freddy has a really good selection of lights and they are very reasonably priced. Hey, does anyone remember the old light set with that crappy generator on the rear wheel that slowed you down? I'm getting old...:)
I tend to be the noisy one, Theresa and the Ride Leaders are the real story.
