I like to think that I am exactly what Spoke n'Hot is all about. I was asked to join by a friend, but after attending a tech night at Dutch Cycle I felt way too intimidated. After lots of convincing (and a new bike!) I jumped in head first. In fact I started on the most difficult night, Hill Night of 2013! (EDIT. That was not her smartest move. Mark)
Even though it was rough introduction, I enjoyed it and kept coming back, eventually falling in love with cycling. I continued with winter indoor training, then Spoke n'Hot 2014 and by 2015 I was asked to become a Ride Leader!
I met some of the triathletes in the club and, inspired by them, decided to make competing in a triathlon one of my goals for 2015. I competed in 2 try-a-tri and a sprint distance race!
I've never considered myself to be an "athlete", but learning to ride, becoming a Ride Leader and competing in three triathlons has completely changed how I see myself.
I was proud to share my experience with Spoke n'Hot in the Dec issue of Canadian Cycling magazine and hope that I can help to inspire other women to become the athlete that they want to be.
